Katherine Havemeyer Lilac, Syringa vulgaris 'Katherine Havemeyer', is an early blooming French Hybrid that produces abundant clusters of double, lavender-pink, fragrant flowers among dark green, disease resistant foliage. It is a leggy, suckering, deciduous shrub, somewhat irregular in shape. It is a strong, long lived, popular shrub that is easily grown in a neutral soil, with peat or leaf mold enrichment, and it prefers full sun. Katherine Havemeyer Lilac tolerates light shade, but best bloom is in full sun. It grows 10-12 feet tall and 8-10 feet wide which makes a very colorful border or screen. Very well branched head with lots of fragrant blooms, this pretty, spreading lilac makes an excellent backdrop for a shrub border.
