Juniper - Maney

Maney Juniper, Juniperus chinensis 'Maneyi', is a semi-erect juniper that has an attractive blue cast to its foliage, along with gray-green berries in summer. It has a horizontal layered, irregular habit. This is one of the hardiest medium-sized evergreens and makes an excellent choice for any landscape planting. Maney Juniper has a handsome appearance and is medium sized for any planting. It is a fast grower and has excellent cold tolerance. Requires a well drained soil in a sunny location, adaptable to different soil pH; tolerates fairly alkaline soils and prefers full sun to part shade. This evergreen shrub grow 4-5 feet in height and 5-6 feet in width. Junipers are important evergreens for landscape use due to their tolerance of unfavorable soil conditions, their hardiness and great variation in size, habit, color and growth rate. Junipers are used as ground covers, in foundation plantings, or as hedges, screens or windbreaks. These plants may also be utilized for background plantings in shrub beds or flower gardens, as specimen plants, in rock gardens or for topiary or espalier purposes. ... more

Mountain Laurel The Mountain Laurel, Kalmia latifolia, is a native American plant. It is the state flower of Connecticut and Pennsylvania. As a result of years of hybridizing and research there are over 80 known varieties. It grows upright and has beautiful tough glossy foliage. The buds progress into dainty candy like flowers in the spring (May though July). However, the root systems are fine and shallow. Therefore, there is a need to protect the roots from too much heat and fertilizer. Provide shade for the roots with companion plants or with mulch. Water often during growth periods, do not let the plant dry out. Maintain well drained, acidic soil with ample humus.
