A Gaggle of Gourds

The Gaggle of Gourds, 'Lagenaria siceraria', is an assortment of hard shelled gourds that creative crafters will love. Once cured, hard shelled gourds will last indefinitely and can be painted, carved, cut or drilled to make birdhouses, bowls, planters and hundreds of other craft projects. For thousands of years, gourds have been grown to used as utensils, storage containers, musical instruments, and ornamental objects. This gourd mix includes Birdhouse or Bottle Gourd, Calabash or Penguin, Corsican, Dipper, and Speckled Swan. Gourds are very frost sensitive. Plant 2 to 4 weeks after average last frost date and when soil temperatures have risen above 60 degrees. The soils should be well drained and very rich in organic matter. Pepper - Sweet - Romanian The Pepper Sweet Romaine, 'Capsicum annum', produces a rainbow of pepper colors in your garden and on your table. They are perfect for salads, grilling or roasting. Romaime Peppers start out ivory-colored , turn orange, then mature to red. All three color stages can appear at one time. This pepper plant is a prolific producers. Transplant outside in the spring 3 to 4 weeks after last frost date. Note: To get a jump on the season transplant outside, use a walls-of-water or some black plastic to maintain and increase temperatures. Plant in average garden soil with sufficient organic matter.
